MICHIGAN — The first time the Associated Press tweeted about Michigan basketball, the tweet was about a national team trip that was to take place this month in Los Angeles.
And yet the AP is tweeting about a recruiting trip for the Spartans right now.
In a tweet Friday, the AP said it was tweeting about Michigan’s March Madness tournament, which starts Feb. 20.
The AP says Michigan has made a commitment to five players in the 2016 class: sophomore forward Anthony Gilliam, forward Sammie Brown, forward Dylan Siegel, guard Kaitlyn Ruggles and guard Samuels Brown.
The AP has a long history of tweeting about prospects and recruiting, and it has been doing it for years.
But it has taken a step back this year.
The last time it tweeted about a Michigan basketball prospect was on March 2, when the AP tweeted about sophomore forward Alex Crognale.
The Spartans had a recruiting visit with Crognaale in L.A. on Wednesday and had another visit Thursday in New York City.
The Spartans also did a workout with him in New Orleans on Friday.
Michigan’s next trip to the Bahamas is scheduled for March 20.
