Texas is adding a senior from Iowa to its coaching staff, the Big 12 announced Thursday.
Iowa head coach Bob Stoeckler announced the hire via Twitter, calling the news “a great opportunity for me to have a strong relationship with Coach Stoops and his staff.”
Stoops joins a staff of 18 that includes former Iowa players Chris Thompson and Zach Miller.
Stoops was the head coach at the University of Minnesota from 2010 to 2015.
Iowa’s roster now stands at 22 players.
Stoices assistant and Iowa’s offensive coordinator Matt Campbell is the new associate head coach.
Iowa’s quarterbacks coach will be Kevin Wilson.
Iowa returns seven starters from a squad that went 4-8 in 2016.
Iowa has never won a conference game in its 25-year history, and the program has never reached bowl eligibility.
